Colorado Institute of Flamenco is a 501c3 nonprofit organization committed to preserving and promoting the art or flamenco.

Andréana Cortés

Andréana is a flamenco guitarist and singer whose connection to flamenco is deeply rooted in the proud traditions of her Spanish Gypsy heritage.   She is the daughter of guitarist Enrique Heredia, who most famously performed alongside the legendary dancer, José Greco, and niece of Rene Heredia, guitarist  for the highly revered, Carmen Amaya.

In 2004, Susana di Palma invited Andréana as dance accompanist, for her school and performing arts group, Zorongo Flamenco. It was during this time that Andréana really surged in her studies under flamenco masters like Pedro Cortés, David Serva,  and Jose “Chuscales,” Valle.

In between her guitar studies, Andréana decided to integrated flamenco dance, most notably with Susan di Palma, the great Manolete, as well as La Conja, Adriana Maresma Fois, and La Magdalena.  In 2016, Andréana earned a B.A in Music and composition from the University of St. Thomas, St. Paul, Minnesota in classical and flamenco guitar studying under Anthony Hauser.

Flamenco singing  was quite coincidental in which Andreana began singing the cante (song) for the Zorongo Flamenco dance students while accompanying their class, to bring context and aires (the feel) while learning their choreographed dance. For flamenco cante, she has studied with the late Jesús Montoya, Vicente Griego, La Conja, and José Fernández Cortés.

In 2018, she and her husband moved to Denver where she was invited by her Uncle Rene Heredia to perform with his dance company, Flamenco Fantasy Dance Theatre (1968-2021).

While Andreana brings new relevance to her guitar, dance, and singing, she never loses sight of her roots, and considers it a privilege to be able to share the knowledge and the legacy of her family and the Spanish Gypsy traditions. She established Colorado Institute of Flamenco with this idea in mind where individuals and families within the community of all ages and abilities, can come and enjoy, build relationships, learn and grow and perform the art of flamenco.
